Customer Reviews

Customer rating stars Not as good as Sky+ Sent on 08 September 2010
I'm used to Sky+ but recently changed to Virgin and so bought one of these to pause live TV and record. It works well enough but I have given it a couple of weeks and I have to say that it could be much easier to navigate - it is just not nearly as intuitive and easy to use as Sky+. It's a real shame. It's a bit like in the old days before windows - I'm afraid Humax is a PC with a flashing cursor and Sky+ is a a Macintosh, if you know what I mean. :-)

Customer rating stars Humax PVR900T 320GB Sent on 07 September 2010
Humax freeview recorder is easily set up and quick and easy to use. Quality and recording is good. I still have some reading up of instructions as it does more than my previous recorder. Very pleased

Customer rating stars Almost there but not quite... Sent on 29 August 2010
I bought this on the basis that it was a Which? Best Buy and the reviews on Amazon. It was easy to connect using the HDMI leads however if I turned the Humax off then I didn't get any signal on the TV. Only when I switched it to standby did the signal for the TV get through. I think this is specific to HDMI and not SCART.
The menuing system is good however when it gets ready to record a programme 15 minutes before the scheduled time it comes out of standby and I lose the TV signal for about 15 seconds - this could be critical if you miss the vital part of the programme you're watching.
There is no easy way that I can see to connect the Humax to my PC via an ethernet network and although I've emailed Humax for advice over a week ago I've not had a response.
Overall it does what it should do but I'm disappointed that multimedia devices are not yet easy to integrate into a whole house system. Perhaps I'm missing something.

Customer rating stars Well worth buying Sent on 27 August 2010
It took some time to decide whether to buy this item, reading mixed reviews and having experienced some problems with freeview boxes. I was also waiting for a unit to appear on the market with twin freeview tuners, hard drive and dvd recorder but it became apparent that no maker was likely to produce one, so I took the plunge and bought a PVR9300T from Amazon.

Connected to my television and vcr, in place of an existing freeview box, it was switched on and all stations were automatically installed without delay. Slight fan noise for a few seconds on starting up each time then silent running. Picture quality is excellent and recording could not be easier. Many useful features, such as instant recording, time lapse and pause. The response on BBC red button is also faster than any other freeview unit that I have used. If long-term recordings are needed, it is easy to copy from the hard disc to vcr and presumably could be done to a separate dvd recorder.

As stated in some reviews, it took a few minutes for the EPG to be completed each time on starting up. Then yesterday, having been in use for two weeks, there was an automatic upgrade OTA and the EPG is now stored in standby. It seems strange that I had to wait for delivery, as Amazon had none in stock during late July, yet this was a software update issued in May. The update also advised visiting the Humax website for an updated manual but it is the same as the printed one that came with the unit, reasonably good but obviously written by someone in a far away land.

So far, I am totally satisfied and time will tell on reliability. Having had a Humax television for a few years I am quite optimistic.

Customer rating stars Best Freeview+ box... at the moment Sent on 26 August 2010
Just bought another as a present. Great picture, reliable, well made and easy to use, so why 4 stars.
Well nothing's perfect, the remote is not the best design with the most often pressed button, the shortcut to the saved programs list hidden under the flap. There is another way to get to it but it's through two menu's so a bit of a pain. A universal remote is the answer, also solves the problem with the volume control not working when using the hdmi cable connection. One other gripe and this might just be my setup but some of the lesser channels breakup sometimes when the box is set to 720dpi, I don't understand how this can alter the reception but anyway changing it to 576dpi has fixed the problem and the picture looks just as good.
So to sum-up, if you're one of those people who can afford the basic package on sky+, which by the way is equivalent to buying a new digibox every year!, then that's fine buy that, just don't stop your subscription otherwise you lose your recording features. The Humax 9300 has better functionality, like auto linking split programs, timer clash alternate search and name search, it also upscales. It's better than the topfield I had, less messing about with taps and has excellent energy saving features. Until freeview+ hd is rolled out across the country and at decent strength, which will be about three years by my estimate, then this is your best bet, it's not let me down.
